You can only complete an apprenticeship in full-time training. However, you also have the option of obtaining the Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET Diploma) as part of catch-up training if you already have several years of professional experience in your desired field. You do not have to conclude an apprenticeship contract for this, but can complete the qualification procedure, the final apprenticeship examination, on your own with sufficient individual preparation. You can also do this with special preparatory courses that prepare you for your exam. You also have the option of having training and experience you have already completed recognized and completing any missing areas required for a qualification separately. Articles 32 and 32 OPET regulate these two procedures. You must have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience for the validation of existing educational achievements and the apprenticeship qualification for adults. Shortened basic training is also possible in addition to conventional basic training, although these two options are generally completed full-time.
