You need a specific apprenticeship qualification for some, but not for all further training in interior decoration. For example, certificate courses can usually be obtained without a subject-specific qualification; an EFZ in any profession or a comparable qualification is sufficient. In order to obtain a federal certificate of a professional examination (BP) or a federal diploma of a higher professional examination (HFP), an apprenticeship qualification as a trained interior decorator is required. The situation is different for courses of study at universities of applied sciences, such as the advanced training course to become a certified technician in construction planning (formerly specializing in interior design). In order to take part in this course, participants must have completed basic vocational training as an EFZ draughtsperson specializing in architecture or interior design. People in construction-related professions with an EFZ can be admitted after a preliminary construction course.
