Do I need any special prior knowledge for a course in literature?
If you would like to attend a literature course, you are not expected to have already published a book, nor are you expected to have been reading prose texts for years. For some courses, you do not need to have any experience in reading or writing literary texts, but you do need to be able to read and understand your chosen language family (German, English, Romance, ...). For other courses or degree programs, however, good literary knowledge of the relevant genres or epochs is expected. Language requirements are always stated in the admission requirements of the individual courses, as are the previous literary knowledge and school requirements (for a degree course) and can be obtained directly from the school.
