Which training programs are apprenticeships?
Vocational training in Switzerland can take place in several ways. Firstly, there is the two-year vocational education and training (VET), which is available in many professions and awards a Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training (VET) upon completion. This training is also known as an apprenticeship and is primarily aimed at young people who did less well at school and provides them with practical training. Following the Federal VET Diploma, graduates can often enter the second year of an apprenticeship with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET Diploma) if they are interested, thus continuing their education and keeping their chances open for federal continuing education, further training. The Federal VET Diploma is a three- to four-year apprenticeship, depending on the profession, which teaches you the requirements necessary for your profession. You will receive both practical and theoretical training for the Federal VET Diploma and the Federal VET Certificate in a training company, at a vocational college and at an inter-company course center.
