Looking for the perfect language travel destination? Tahiti might be your dream destination. Tropical beaches, volcanoes and rainforests, all to be found on two islands that cover an area of just 1000 square kilometers. Tahiti lies between Australia and South America. The islands are inhabited by 187,000 people and thus have an absolute population density of 179 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The largest city in Tahiti is Papeete, known for its large market and boulevard. The pearl museum is also located on Boulevard Pomaré, where you can get a good impression of how the beautiful and unique Tahitian pearl is formed. The islands are also home to magnificent botanical gardens, waterfalls surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and the Marae Mahaiatea, a kind of step pyramid that makes for exciting and impressive excursions.
Other popular activities during a language study trip to Tahiti include horseback riding, golfing, hiking, diving or snorkeling in an impressive underwater landscape and sunbathing on the miles of dream beaches that ring the islands. The surrounding islands are also exciting excursion destinations. Bora Bora, for example, is less than an hour's flight away and the trip there costs just 50 euros per flight. Tahiti is therefore perfect for a language trip with a pure paradisiacal vacation feeling. If you can, you shouldn't miss out on combining this dream destination with a language study trip.
It is well known that Tahiti is not exactly around the corner. The flight takes over 24 hours and you have to change planes at least once. The cost of the flights (outward and return) is CHF 2500, but prices can vary greatly depending on the offer and travel time. Depending on the route and travel costs, a language study trip of at least two weeks is recommended. If you have less money and time available, you are well advised to consider other language travel destinations such as France, Canada or Guadeloupe.
Thanks to the extremely mild, tropical climate in Tahiti, the destination is suitable for a language study trip all year round. The average annual temperature is 27 degrees Celsius. However, most tourists choose the dry season. If you want to avoid the crowds, you should plan your language study trip between November and March.
There is not a huge selection of language schools in Tahiti. Early enrollment is therefore certainly an advantage. The offer is primarily aimed at adults and is considerable despite the small number of schools. The language schools are mainly located in the smaller towns of Papara and Punaauia in the east of the larger northern island.
As Tahiti belongs to France, the country is part of the European Union. Swiss nationals therefore only need a valid passport or identity card to enter the country without any problems. As in Switzerland, it is mandatory to always carry an identity card for identification purposes in Tahiti. This means that there is not much standing in the way of a longer language study trip.
Tahiti is considered safe, but you should still be on your guard against pickpockets, con artists and tourist traps. Caution is therefore advised here - as in practically all tourist regions.
No specific vaccinations are required, but it is recommended that you brush up on the usual vaccinations before your stay in Tahiti.
Tahiti is not necessarily cheap for language travel. A standard course of 20 lessons per week costs from CHF 1000 for one week and around CHF 10,000 for 12 weeks. There are also offers for combined language courses and purely private lessons, but this has a corresponding impact on the costs.
Despite the costs, Tahiti is certainly a dream destination when it comes to language study trips and once you've enjoyed the magnificent nature or are lying on a paradisiacal beach, you'll be sure - it's worth it.
