Questions and answers

Completion of the professional examination (BP) to become a production specialist with a federal certificate is not mandatory for admission to the HF course in production technology. HF students have the opportunity to take the professional examination after one year of study during their training as a production technician HF, if they wish, in order to obtain their first qualification.

Depending on the school, the course of study at an HF college of further education in production technology lasts between six and seven semesters.

After successfully completing the degree course for Production Technician HF at a university of applied sciences, you are entitled to use the following federally protected title: "Graduate Mechanical Engineering Technician HF" (formerly "Graduate Technician HF Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Production Engineering").

Training to become a production technician HF (formerly "Techniker HF Produktionstechnik" or "Techniker HF Maschinenbau (Vertiefungsrichtung Produktionstechnik), new: "Maschinenbautechniker/in HF") consists of a specialized course of study with a concluding optional professional examination for production specialists with a federal certificate and a diploma course leading to a federal HF diploma.

It is not only possible to continue working during the course in Production Engineering HF, but is even required for at least 50 percent of the part-time course. Proof of this activity in the mechanical-technical field must be provided for the entire duration of the course.

Which course content is taught and how it is structured (breadth and depth of subject matter) depends on the respective higher technical college and can therefore vary. In most cases, the course content is taught in modules that are completed individually during the course.

The modules that have to be completed for the final examination vary from HF to HF. It is best to contact the school of your choice directly.
