What are Microsoft Office programs?

An Office package is a compilation of the most common computer programs needed for standard office work. For example, for writing letters, receiving and sending e-mails, creating presentations and automating cost statements. There are Office programs for all computer brands and operating systems.

Office programs are available for free download on the Internet; so-called open source software.

Other programs are installed with the operating system as standard equipment on a new computer. Extended versions and major updates usually have to be purchased separately.

The most common office package is the one from Microsoft: Microsoft Office or MS Office for short.
