Oftmals bieten Schulen den Unterricht zur Vorbereitung auf die Berufsprüfung zum Werkstattleiter respektive Metallbau-Werkstatt- und Montageleiter mit eidgenössischem Fachausweis an Freitagnachmittagen sowie samstags an. Einige Weiterbildungen finden hingegen ausschliesslich an Samstagen statt, andere an einem Wochentag. Für die Teilnahme an der Weiterbildung zum Metallbau-Werkstattleiter / zur Metallbau-Werkstattleiterin mit eidg. Fachausweis müssen Interessenten entweder einen Lehrabschluss als Metallbaukonstrukteur / Metallbaukonstrukteurin mit eidg. Fähigkeitszeugnis EFZ, als Metallbauer / Metallbauerin EFZ oder eines verwandten Berufes mit mehrjähriger Berufserfahrung im Metallbau vorweisen können.

Anyone who has completed the Metal Construction Workshop Manager course is admitted to the final examination:

1. is in possession of a federal certificate of competence as a metalworker or a related profession;
2. has at least 3 years of metal construction experience since completing the apprenticeship (graduates of a day vocational school recognized by the QS Commission will have a maximum of 1 year of schooling counted as metal construction experience);
3. provides evidence of attending a course as a vocational trainer;
4. has the required module qualifications or certificates of equivalence.

Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss der Berufsprüfung erlangen Metallbau-Werkstattleiter und -Werkstattleiterinnen den Titel: „Metallbau-Werkstatt- und Montageleiter/in mit eidgenössischen Fachausweis“.

The metal construction workshop manager training course usually takes place over four semesters and comprises between 8 and 12 hours of lessons per week. In addition, there is self-study time of between three and five hours per week, depending on the student. This is the amount of time required to prepare for the professional examination in metal construction workshop and assembly management.
