What will I learn on the way to the baccalaureate? Can I specialize?

For the gymnasiale Matura you will be divided intoten basic subjectsThese provide the basis for your broad general education. In addition, you mustone each  Core subject and supplementary subjectchoose. Your individual baccalaureate profile is determined by the (sometimes limited) selection and combination of these subjects. One component of the Matura examination is the writing of a Matura thesis. This offers you a further opportunity to highlight your special interests and skills and to sharpen your profile. To theExample:

If you are fascinated by forensic medicine and want to create a good basis for studying medicine, then choose "Biology and Chemistry" as your main subject. Economics and Law" would be a good supplementary subject. If you then complete a Matura thesis in an area where these subjects overlap, e.g. on a topic such as "Death angels in care centers" or "Is malnutrition punishable by law?", you will see where your path could take you.

The basic subjects in German-speaking Switzerland are:

  • German or Romansh (generally: first language)
  • French (generally: second national language)
  • Italian (generally: third national language) or English or Latin or Greek
  • Mathematics
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

  • Geography
