What do you do for a living?

I completed my commercial training a few years ago and have now been working for the canton for several years. I am now co-head of a specialist unit.

Why did you decide to complete the Leadership Certificate?

With my new management position, I realized that I wanted to expand my leadership skills. I therefore looked for suitable further training and came across the Leadership SVF course. I then completed this certificate at the Migros Club School in Berne and immediately decided to do the full course as a management specialist with a federal certificate. I'm currently on the management module.

Did you benefit from the course content?

Yes, very much. I became much more self-confident. If you want to lead a team, you have to be able to lead yourself first. That's why we took a very close look at ourselves on the leadership course. We faced up to our own weaknesses and worked on ourselves. That was sometimes quite hard and challenging. But the bottom line is that I benefited enormously from this process: I became much more self-confident, my appearance improved greatly and became much more confident. I also learned how to approach conflicts constructively and express myself more diplomatically. This means I can tackle challenges in my day-to-day work as a manager - but also in my private life - constructively. During the leadership training, we also learned how to present and stand in front of people. This helped me to grow beyond myself and comes in very handy in my day-to-day work.

What tips would you give to people who are aiming for the Leadership Diploma?

You really have to be clear about this beforehand: Am I prepared to deal with myself and reflect on myself? This process can be very painful at times. But it is worth it. The Leadership SVF course does a lot for your self-esteem. You also have to be aware that the training is quite intensive. Sometimes you have to give up family time and free time because of the training - especially before and during the examination phase. But the successful completion of the leadership course definitely makes up for this sacrifice.
