How long does the further training course "Communications Specialist (BP)" take and how much does it cost?

Duration and procedure

  • The continuing education courses to prepare for the professional examination to become a communications specialist with a federal certificate can be completed while working.
  • The preparatory courses last between 2 and 3 semesters.
  • The number of lessons varies between 225 and 340.
  • Lessons usually take place two evenings a week or all day on a working day from Monday to Friday or on Saturday.
  • You can choose between different teaching formats: face-to-face, online or hybrid lessons.
  • The federal examination takes place at least every two years or annually outside the school if at least 25 candidates in German, at least 8 candidates in French or at least 3 candidates in Italian meet the admission requirements.
  • The registration deadline for the written (March) and oral exam (April) is October 30 (as of spring 2021).

Costs

  • The costs for the preparatory courses for the professional examination vary between CHF 9,800 and CHF 11,600.
  • The examination fee of CHF 1,950 and the issuing fee of CHF 50 for the federal certificate are not included in the course costs.
  • Some schools charge additional costs for materials, simulation exams or case and exam corrections. Find out about this directly from the respective provider in advance.
  • Since 2018, the federal government has been providing financial support for graduates of continuing education courses that prepare for a professional examination or higher professional examination. If you have passed the professional examination, you will receive up to half of the training costs back from the federal government upon application (regardless of the result and training institute).
