Wage increase after completion of the "Maintenance Specialist (BP)" course

The professional examination provides you with in-depth knowledge and skills in your field and qualifies you to take on more responsible tasks independently and carry out your first management tasks. With a federal certificate, you will increase your attractiveness on the job market and also increase your chances of a pay rise.

The salary or salary development depends on various factors such as the industry, region, size of the company, professional experience, previous education and age. In terms of salary, the question of whether a new position and function in the previous or another company will be taken up with the degree is also decisive.

You can calculate your personal salary opportunities with "Salarium", the federal government's salary calculator. We have calculated a possible case to illustrate this. It is intended as an example and shows the statistical average.

Calculation of the possible salary increase with the acquisition of the federal certificate as a maintenance specialist

Markus, 25 years old, had completed an apprenticeship as an EFZ assembly electrician and had been working for 4 years in a large electrical company in Zug, which offers services relating to the installation of electrical equipment for private households, industry and commerce. He earned CHF 6,099 per month.

His main task was to study construction plans, lay the electrical pipes and pull the cables. Then there was the installation of fuse and switch boxes, which he particularly enjoyed. He wanted to work more with such electrical or technical equipment and systems. He therefore researched further training opportunities on the Internet and came across the professional examination for maintenance specialists. However, he did not have the required professional experience in maintenance to qualify. His boss would have liked to support him, but the company is not active in maintenance and Markus looked around for a suitable job opportunity.

After a short time, Markus took up a new position as an industrial electrician in maintenance at a large food distribution center in Lucerne. Here he worked in a team of ten people in shifts and was responsible for monitoring, checking, maintaining and servicing the fully automated logistics systems. The combination of manual tasks, logical and networked thinking, new challenges and responsibility every day and working in a team was what he was looking for.

After gaining the necessary two years of professional experience in maintenance, he registered for the preparatory course for the professional examination to become a maintenance specialist and successfully passed the federal examination a year later.

Since then, Markus has continued to work at the same distribution center (now 3 years) and has already been able to take over the deputy management of the team. The acquisition of the federal certificate as a maintenance specialist and his excellent performance on site led to his salary increasing by 26% to CHF 7,681.
