How long does further training to become a "Maintenance Specialist (BP)" take and how much does it cost?

Duration and procedure

  • The preparatory courses to become a maintenance specialist are designed to be taken part-time.
  • They have a modular structure and last 2-3 semesters.
  • The courses comprise between 240 and 430 lessons.
  • The lessons take place on a fixed day of the week, for example on Monday, or on two half-days per week, for example on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
  • If at least 12 candidates meet the admission requirements, the professional examination for maintenance specialists takes place every year, otherwise every two years. The examination can be taken in one of the three official languages German, French or Italian.

Costs

  • The fees for the preparatory course "Maintenance Specialist" amount to CHF 9,700 - CHF 15,300.
  • If your employer is a member of Swissmem, the association of the Swiss mechanical, electrical and metal industry, you may be eligible for reduced course fees.
  • Temporary workers have the opportunity to apply for financial support for this course from "temptraining", the further training fund of the temporary employment sector.
  • The examination fee for "Maintenance Specialist" is CHF 2,150 (as of summer 2021), including the fee for the certificate and registration in the SERI register for certificate holders.
