Application developers develop and program software. In other words, they create new programs or applications, or "apps" for short. They then consider what options are available to implement the customer's requirements and what the advantages and disadvantages of the different variants are. EFZ computer scientists specializing in application development also pay attention to the programming effort, user-friendliness, security and cost-effectiveness. They program the best solution as a prototype and test it thoroughly. Before software can be introduced or sold, there are usually several improvements and changes that have to be tested again.
Within a company, it is often the application developers themselves who later train customers and employees in the use of the new application. After some time, when the software is used by customers, any weak points and new requirements that the software needs to meet become apparent. The developers and customers then move on to the next round of requirements clarification, implementation, testing, etc.
EFZ systems technology IT specialists are responsible for servers, networks, data backup systems and PC workstations. They monitor the security and correct operation of the systems, rectify faults and regularly maintain the components. They look after the communication networks, plan the distribution systems for the software and instruct and support the users. They also create data backup and archiving concepts and monitor their reliable implementation. EFZ computer scientists specializing in systems engineering set up systems, configure them to suit the user and ensure that they are correctly integrated into the network.
EFZ IT specialists in business informatics are all-rounders and can work in both systems engineering and application development. First and foremost, they ensure that all employees of a company can work efficiently. Business IT specialists set up new PC workstations, network peripheral devices such as printers or scanners and rectify any faults. IT specialists specializing in business IT check and install new software versions, monitor the servers and are responsible for user support.
Depending on the company and job profile, they also take care of the networks and data security and ensure that regular backups of all data are made.
