How do I become a business coach? What training courses are there? What do they require?

You will become a business coach on the way to a shorter or longer training program.

The courses run under various names (e.g. supervisor, change manager, consultant, business & management coach). They belong to the advanced level in the field of coaching/consulting/mentoring, where basic coaching knowledge is supplemented and expanded into a specific specialist area.

The courses are not federally regulated, but are largely based on the standards of the Swiss Association for Counselling (SGfB) and the Professional Association for Coaching, Supervision and Organizational Consulting (bso).

Prerequisites

As a rule, successful completion of basic coaching training is required. Lateral entries "sur dossier" are possible; previous training and experience will be credited towards the further training. Some course providers that build on certain theories or models (e.g. systemic coaching, NLP) expect those interested in business coaching to have completed basic training based on the same theories and models.

  • Personal maturity. Some providers specify a minimum age (24 years).
  • At least 3 years of professional experience
  • Interest in (self-)reflection
  • Enjoy accompanying other people in development processes

Degrees

The business coach training courses conclude with the school's own certificates and various titles (some with recognition or the prospect of recognition by the SGfB and bso).
