What courses and training are there for aromatherapy?
What do I learn in the various courses?

Aromatherapy training courses are offered at different levels and for different learning purposes.

Basic courses (also as online course)

Basic courses provide an introduction to the world of aromatherapy. As a rule, they introduce a limited number of essential oils and cover the use of mainly commercially available products. Topics of the basic courses are typically:

  • Important essential oils (origin, properties, effect)
  • Quality assessment of essential oils
  • Indications (areas of application)
  • Forms of application
  • Dosage and fragrance intensity
  • Precautions and contraindications (e.g. allergies)

Advanced courses

The advanced courses often cover other essential oils and sometimes also their molecular structure and the necessary basics of botany and chemistry. Further contents are e.g.

  • Methods for extracting the oils (pressing, distillation)
  • Carrier oils
  • Production of own mixtures
  • Skin and skin care
  • Massage with essential oils
  • Aromatherapy for emergencies
  • Aromatherapy for specific topics (women's medicine, children, dementia)

Application courses for specific target groups

Some courses are very practice-oriented and are aimed at specific target groups. The focus is not on the basics of aromatherapy, but on specific applications. These courses teach methods that course participants can apply directly in their work. These include, for example

  • Hand, arm and foot massages with essential oils in dementia care
  • Foot and leg massages with essential oils in foot care
  • Neck massages with essential oils for relaxation
  • Room fragrances and their possible applications

Courses

Aromatherapy courses teach the above content and other topics in greater depth. Topics on therapeutic practice and case discussions can also be added. The courses generally have a modular structure and consist partly of compulsory and optional modules. This gives you the opportunity to create your own profile as an aromatherapist.
