Switzerland-wide survey: Why did you decide to take part in continuing education, further training?
In 2017, Ausbildung-Weiterbildung.ch launched a survey among people in Switzerland who were interested in continuing education, further training. The only question asked was "Why did you decide to complete continuing education, further training?". The answers are very varied and often very surprising.
A total of 1584 people from all walks of life took part in the survey. The respondents covered all age groups, sectors and all levels of education. In some cases, one person gave several reasons for continuing education, further training.
The clear main motivation for continuing education, further training in Switzerland is the prospect of a more interesting job and the desire for professional advancement and a career. Swiss prospective students want to realize their potential and advance professionally. Professionals long for a challenging and fulfilling job that matches their skills and vocation. Around a third of Swiss prospective students see taking on more responsibility in an exciting day-to-day job as very desirable and therefore also as a reason to pursue further education.
Another interesting fact is that a good fifth of people in Switzerland who are interested in further education are basically interested in expanding their knowledge and expertise. They continue their education because they want to learn more about their specialist field and are looking for a new challenge in the form of continuing education, further training. The joy of learning and interest in the subject therefore also motivates people who are already living their dream professionally to complete continuing education, further training.
The survey results also indicate that around 15% of working people in Switzerland want or are planning a career change and are therefore looking for suitable training or continuing education, further training.
Of the large number of survey participants, only 15 people stated that they were aiming for a federally recognized qualification. This fact is astonishing, especially as employers attach great importance to federally recognized qualifications and the chances on the job market are significantly improved by a federally recognized diploma.
