What do you do as a dance therapist?
Dance therapists combine psychological, educational and creative approaches with movement. They work with people of all ages to promote health, well-being and emotional expression.
In practice, they observe movement patterns, support clients in reducing tension, stress or anxiety and use dance as a medium for communication, even when words are difficult.
Dance therapy is used in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, social institutions and private practices.
The work is both preventative, for example to promote body awareness, and rehabilitative in the case of mental or physical impairments.
