Wie lange dauert eine Ausbildung in der Altenpflege?
How long does training in geriatric nursing take?
As there is no such thing as "the training course" in geriatric nursing, it is of course not possible to say in general terms how long such a course will take. Each training course you choose is structured differently and its duration also varies depending on which qualification you are aiming for.
Basic training courses, such as training to become a healthcare specialist (FaGE) or a healthcare specialist with a Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training (Federal VET Diploma), last three years, while an apprenticeship to become a healthcare and social services assistant with a Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training (Federal VET Certificate) lasts two years.
Building on the Federal VET Diploma, you can attend further courses to further your education. This can take the form of studying at a College of Higher Education, for example to become a CHE nursing specialist. Such continuing education, further training takes three years.
Studying at a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) also takes three years full-time, with up to one year of additional practical training depending on previous education.
