Are ancient texts also read in a literary history course?
In literary history, a distinction is made between older and newer literature, so in a course on newer literature you will generally only read works that were written in the late 15th century / early 16th century. Ancient texts, which were written from around 800 BC onwards, are read in special seminars or in a Romance studies course. In courses on German literature or the history of literature, the earliest texts are from the High Middle Ages, around the 12th century AD.
