What subjects are taught during the nanotechnology degree program?

The Master's degree program in Micro- and Nanotechnology consists of the following modules and subject areas:

  • Fundamentals & key technologies (e.g. quantum mechanics, semiconductor physics, solid state physics, materials in the micro and nano range, nanostructures: structure, behavior and effects in the nanoscale range, micro and nanomanufacturing technologies)
  • Micro- and nanosystems technology (including the development and integration of MEMS/NEMS, sensors and actuators in the micro/nano range, optical and electronic components)
  • Characterization methods (e.g. scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), spectroscopic methods (e.g. Raman, FTIR, EDX), electrical, mechanical and thermal measurement methods, error analysis and quality control)
  • Applications in medical technology, photonics, communication technology, environmental technology
  • Integration of micro and nano components in systems
  • Sustainability and safety in handling nanomaterials
