Welche Sprachniveaustufen gibt es im Französischen?

What language levels are there in French?

Those who want to learn French do not necessarily do so in order to obtain a degree. Nevertheless, this is of course possible. Every language school will issue you with a certificate confirming that you have attended a language course if you so wish. At most language schools in France, but also here in Switzerland, the individual courses are also geared towards the language levels of the participants, which have been defined in a Common European Framework of Reference. In 2001, the Council of Europe established six official language levels that define language skills. After completing each level, you can take a French exam to certify your language skills. These language levels are
  • A1 - Starter
  • A2 - Elementary
  • B1 - Pre-Intermediate
  • B2 - Intermediate
  • C1 - Advanced
  • C2 - Professional
If you make it to C2 level, you can be sure that you can speak and understand French almost like a native speaker and won't need any further courses. Official language examinations are offered for all these levels. These are for French: DELF, Diplôme d'études en langue française, and DALF, Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française. You can prepare for these exams in diploma courses at language schools in France, another French-speaking country, for example here in Switzerland.
