What content is taught in the CAS Garden Therapy?

The CAS Horticultural Therapy at a University of Applied Sciences consists of various modules in which the following topics, among others, are discussed with the students:

  • Basics of garden therapy (e.g. mechanisms of action of nature and garden activities on body, mind and psyche, differentiation from other forms of therapy)
  • Plants and gardens as therapeutic agents (e.g. medicinal herbalism & plant knowledge for therapy)
  • Target groups & fields of application (e.g. garden therapy in retirement homes, psychiatry, schools, prisons, care for the disabled)
  • Therapeutic work (e.g. documentation and evaluation of therapeutic processes)
  • Psychological & pedagogical basics
