Learning to speak Chinese is not easy, learning Chinese characters is even more difficult. For this reason, you will only learn the phonetic transcription in beginners' courses and only learn Chinese characters in a language course at a higher level. If you have a special interest in Chinese characters, some language schools offer the opportunity to take a language course in combination with calligraphy.
