What is patent law?

A patent is an industrial property right that secures licenses and is enshrined in patent law. People who wish to patent an innovation usually do so in order to have the invention or further development legally protected and to prevent others from using it commercially. Innovations are thus protected for at least 20 years and belong to the patent holder. This also includes imitations or copying. Larger companies are usually applicants for patents, as innovation management plays an important role in the economic development of companies in various sectors and is intended to secure monopoly profits.
As patent protection is a very extensive topic in which a number of formalities, legal principles and requirements must be observed, it makes sense to take a closer look at the basics and special features of patent law if you are interested in this topic, both professionally and privately. Patent attorneys in particular are experts in this field, but thanks to a comprehensive range of courses offered by Universities and other providers, it is also possible for laypersons to familiarize themselves with this subject area.
