Was machen Physiotherapeuten eigentlich genau?
What exactly do physiotherapists do?
A physiotherapist deals with the restoration, treatment and improvement of movement restrictions of all kinds. These can be physical restrictions as a result of an accident or an illness, whether chronic or acute, as well as disabilities, misalignments or preventive measures. The aim of physiotherapy is to treat the musculoskeletal system and restore it as far as possible. To this end, after a thorough examination and questioning of the patient, measures are taken in which the patient must be passive on the one hand and perform active exercises on the other. This means that the physiotherapist performs movements for the patient in order to mobilize, massage and activate the affected area. This is done with massages, heat, electrotherapy or hydrotherapy, for example. The aim of physiotherapy is to combine passive and active methods and to show the patient the measures that he or she can use independently in everyday life in order to continue to treat the complaints or misalignments of the musculoskeletal system after the therapy and to prevent future complaints. A physiotherapist is therefore often very physically active and must not shy away from physical contact.
