A French language school teaches language skills from different language levels that correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The six levels of difficulty are: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Depending on the language level, the following is taught on a French language course:

  • A - Elementary use of language
    • A1 - understands familiar, everyday expressions and can use very simple sentences
    • A2 - understands sentences and frequently used expressions that are directly related to their meaning
  • B - Independent use of language
    • B1 - Understand main points in clear standard language and familiar things
    • B2 - Understand the main content of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics (including technical discussions)
  • C - Competent use of language
    • C1: advanced level - can understand more demanding, longer texts
    • C2: almost native-speaker command of the language - can understand practically everything effortlessly through reading and listening
