Transfer from elementary school to secondary school - Info

What needs to be considered when transferring from elementary school to secondary school?

After Year 6, children leave elementary school and move on to either secondary school or grammar school. This important step is carefully prepared in the sixth grade and planned and decided together with the responsible teachers.

After completing secondary school, students are awarded the lower-secondary level, while the baccalaureate school leads to the upper-secondary level.

This qualification can also be obtained after secondary school with vocational education and training / tertiary level, thus securing access to continuing education and training (VET).

Depending on the canton and sometimes also on the municipality, the lower-secondary level is divided into two or three sections or requirement levels, which are often referred to as A, B or C.

The decision on placement is usually made directly with the parents at the parents' meeting. The assessment covers the children's academic performance, their work and learning behavior, their social behavior and their level of development.
