What does the term video editing mean?
If individual video recordings, or individual excerpts from them, are arranged in a certain order and length to form a rhythmic and suspenseful video, this procedure is referred to as video editing.
A distinction is made between a rough cut and a fine cut.
- The rough cut creates order for the first time in the large and perhaps confusing pile of numerous recordings. All recordings are viewed and recordings that are not needed or not particularly successful are sorted out. In the end, only the shots that are to be used remain. Then it's time to organize the clippings again. As they are, without any effects, they are assigned to the appropriate scenes in the corresponding order so that a common thread is created and the basic video framework is already available in the raw version. Once the order has been determined, the next step is to cut the individual sections to the desired length and define the transitions.
- In the fine-tuning stage, the video is no longer actually cut, but rather the focus is on editing the footage. For example, video effects such as time lapse, slow motion, motion and color effects as well as text, sound, etc. are added.
