What do the terms German course A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 mean?

These designations indicate the language level for German courses. The Council of Europe has adopted a classification of proficiency levels, which is set out in the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages". The classification comprises six categories, ranging from German course A1 to C2, whereby the former certifies minimal basic knowledge and the latter almost native-speaker ability. Almost all language schools in Switzerland use this classification for their German courses. This allows you to quickly and clearly identify which German course is right for you. You always choose the level that corresponds to your current knowledge of German.
