Muss ich für ein Studium in Moderner Kunst auch die Kunsttheorie lernen?

Do I also have to learn art theory to study modern art?

A course of study, regardless of the field, is always partly academic. This means that even a modern art degree does not consist exclusively of practical work and you spend hours, days or weeks in a studio painting, photographing, carving, sculpting or similar. Studying art teaches you the basics of art, art theory and art history. It gives you an understanding of the influences of history and politics on the respective art epoch, the techniques and characteristics of the individual epochs and their most famous artists. A study of the arts can therefore never do without a certain amount of art history, as this lays the foundation for everything that came after and is today. The Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, for example, is a course that places a strong focus on the independent work of the prospective artist.
