Muss ich bei einer Sprachreise meine Sprachkenntnisse bereits vorher verbindlich angeben?
Do I have to declare my language skills in advance for a language course?
Many language schools will ask you to state your foreign language skills when you register so that they can make a rough classification of the learning groups. You can usually choose from a scale of 1-6, which within Europe is often divided into A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. A1 stands for no speaking experience, C2 for perfect language skills. However, other classifications are also possible, especially for non-European languages such as Mandarin Chinese, Arabic or Japanese. The information you provide is generally not binding or should not be binding for placement on a language course, as it is probably very difficult for you to assess your actual language skills. You should therefore check whether you can take a language test before your language course, which is also possible online, or whether such a test is carried out on site before the course starts. This is the only way to ensure that you are placed in a language learning group that is as homogeneous as possible and in which everyone has almost the same previous knowledge. For an initial assessment of your language skills, you can also use our online placement test, which is available for English, French, Spanish and Italian at levels A1/A2 and B1/B2.
