To become a self-employed detective, it is advisable to have worked in a detective agency for some time or to have already gained professional experience as a police officer. A solid training and routine is important in order to not only receive small, entertaining assignments from private individuals, but also to be able to provide investigative services for commercial enterprises and institutions. However, it should also be noted that working as a private detective is subject to authorization by the police department, i.e. you need a license. This applies to the following cantons: AG, BS, BL, TG, TI, SO, SG, LU, GE, JU, NW and NE.
