Learning German: How do I decide on the right language level?

Always choose a language course for learning German that matches your own expectations and abilities. This is the only way to ensure that you learn German appropriately. This also includes choosing the right level for learning German. There are 6 different language levels that show you what you will be able to do after completing a German course. These are

  • A1You can speak and understand simple sentences, introduce yourself and other people (My name is Hugo and I'm from Latvia. This is my sister Heide) and ask questions about the other person (Where are you from?). You can also answer simple personal questions and communicate with the other person.
  • A2You can understand and use expressions and phrases related to work, shopping, yourself, your environment and your family. You can make yourself understood and converse in simple sentences.
  • B1You understand what the other person is telling you and can answer them. You can talk about your goals and your life and have a conversation.
  • B2You can understand and reproduce even complex texts on difficult topics. You are able to converse fluently and comment on various topics.
  • C1:You are fluent in German and can understand even demanding texts and conversations. Spontaneous conversations are no problem for you and you can express even complex issues in a structured and linguistically perfect way.
  • C2You have almost the vocabulary and language level of a native speaker and can express yourself perfectly in all situations.
