Spinal massage is characterized by its gentleness and is based on the theory that intervertebral discs are not "used up" but are partially "degenerated". The aim of this therapy is to achieve disc regeneration. More and more patients are explicitly asking for a spinal massage. This is why more and more therapists and massage specialists have undergone further training in this area.

In der Breuss Massage wird eine Wirbelsäulenmassage durchgeführt, die auch tiefliegende Blockaden und seelische Verspannungen löst. Sie ist eine sanfte Technik, die vor allem bei Bandscheibenproblemen oft mit Johanniskrautöl unterstützt wird und energetisch wirkt. Nicht selten führen Massagetherapeuten die Breuss Methode in Kombination mit der Dorn-Methode durch.

Je nach Schule können die Voraussetzungen für einen Lehrgang in der Wirbelsäulenmassage variieren. Die einen setzten eine bereits abgeschlossene Ausbildung in klassischer Massage und Anatomiekenntnisse voraus, andere ermöglichen auch Personen ohne Erfahrung in der Medizin, der Therapie oder dem Wellness den Zugang zu ihren Kursen.

Die Themen einer Weiterbildung in der Wirbelsäulenmassage sind je nach Ausrichtung sehr unterschiedlich. So werden etwa die einzelnen Methoden unterrichtet, wie die Dorntherapie, die Breuss-Massage oder der Wirbelsäulen-Basis-Ausgleich. Sie erlernen nicht nur die Grifftechniken kennen sondern auch die Indikation, Kontraindikation, Theorie sowie die Befundaufnahme.
