Tourism specialist: Turning leisure and travel into a career

Anyone who decides to train as a tourism specialist has the goal of taking on demanding management and specialist tasks in a travel company. To do this, however, the tourism specialist must have a good general education and sound knowledge of business management, accounting, business administration and management. All of this can be learned.

Questions and answers

Es stimmt, dass Sie für die Zulassung zum Studium dipl. Tourismusfachmann / dipl. Tourismusfachfrau HF eine Eignungsabklärung machen müssen. Diese muss jedoch nicht zwangsläufig aus einer schriftlichen Aufnahmeprüfung bestehen, sondern kann auch aus einem Aufnahmegespräch eventuell mit Probezeit bestehen.

Es muss nicht zwangsläufig eine Berufstätigkeit im Tourismus sein, der Sie während des HF-Studiums zum dipl. Tourismusfachmann HF / zur dipl. Tourismusfachfrau HF nachkommen. Auch eine Anstellung in der Freizeitindustrie oder einem tourismusverwandten Bereich ist möglich. Allerdings sollten Sie darauf achten, dass Sie eine mindestens 50-prozentige Anstellung in einem dieser Bereiche finden.

Das Studium zum dipl. Tourismusfachmann HF dauert berufsbegleitend oder in Vollzeit drei Jahre mit insgesamt 5400 Lernstunden. Sollten Sie über ein Fähigkeitszeugnis als Kaufmann / Kauffrau Profil B, E, M, als Detailhandelsfachfrau / Detailhandelsfachmann oder eine kaufmännische Berufsmaturität verfügen, sind nur 3600 Lernstunden in zwei Jahren zu absolvieren.

Berufsleute aus dem Tourismus, die über drei oder mehr Jahre Berufserfahrung verfügen, können an manchen Schulen nach dem ersten Ausbildungsjahr zum Tourismusfachmann / zur Tourismusfachfrau bei Bedarf gleich ins dritte Ausbildungsjahr einsteigen und das Praktikumsjahr auslassen. Besprechen Sie dies bitte immer mit den entsprechenden Schulen.

Auslandssemester sind während des Studiums an einer Höheren Fachschule zum Tourismusfachmann nicht möglich, anders als dies bei Fachhochschulen der Fall ist. Dafür besteht die Möglichkeit, dass angehende Tourismusfachleute während eines einjährigen Praktikums Auslandserfahrung sammeln können.
