Jein. Eine einschlägige berufliche Grundbildung ist sicher hilfreich, aber eine Berufslehre als Telematiker/in EFZ oder (wie die Lehre seit 2020 heisst:) Gebäudeinformatiker/in EFZ ist keine zwingende Voraussetzung. Achtung: Der Lehrgang «Telematik HF» bzw. «Techniker/in HF Telematik» wurde überarbeitet; die Lerninhalte werden seit 2022 neu unter dem Lehrgangstitel «Systemtechniker/in HF» vermittelt. Den Lehrgang in Systemtechnik können Sie an einer Höheren Fachschule (HF) auch mit einem anderen technischen Berufsabschluss (EFZ) besuchen, etwa als Elektroniker/in, Automatiker/in, Elektroinstallateur/in, Informatiker/in oder Multimediaelektroniker/in.

Wie lange dauert die Ausbildung an einer Höheren Fachschule zum Telematiker?

Wie viel Prozent kann ich während der Ausbildung HF als Telematiker weiterhin berufstätig sein?

Je nach Wahl der Höheren Fachschule und Kursmodell können Sie während der Ausbildung zum/zur dipl. Systemtechniker/in HF auch weiterhin zwischen 80 und 100 Prozent berufstätig bleiben. Beachten Sie jedoch, dass neben dem Präsenzunterricht auch ausreichend Zeit für das Selbststudium und die Prüfungsvorbereitungen bleiben muss. Gibt es auch eine Berufsprüfung für Telematiker?

Für Telematiker/innen EFZ bzw. Gebäudeinformatiker/innen EFZ (so heisst der Berufsabschluss seit 2021) mit einigen Jahren Berufserfahrung bieten sich gleich mehrere Berufsprüfungen (BP) an, je nach bevorzugter Fachrichtung: Elektroprojektleiter/in Installation und Sicherheit mit eidg. Fachausweis Telematik-Projektleiter/in mit eidg. Fachausweis Elektroprojektleiter/in Planung mit eidg. Fachausweis offen. Die Berufsprüfung «Gebäudeinformatiker/in mit eidg. Fachausweis» wird zurzeit erarbeitet (Stand Herbst 2023).

Training and further education in the field of telematics

The term telematics is a combination of telecommunications and IT and refers to a technology. More precisely, it combines the two fields of telecommunications and information technology. It is therefore the means of linking information from at least two IT systems with the aid of a telecommunications system and special data processing.

Telematics deals with the following core areas: Computer networks such as the Internet, telephone and mobile networks. It also includes the following specialist areas: Traffic telematics, building automation (facility management), e-commerce, health telematics/telemedicine (e-health), education telematics (e-learning) and security telematics.

Telematics is a comprehensive technical system for information processing and data transportation. This technology can be used in all areas of public and private life. One possible sub-task is the traffic management, traffic control and traffic information function.

Questions and answers

Do I necessarily need an apprenticeship in this field for the HF training as a telematics technician?

Yes and no. Relevant basic vocational training is certainly helpful, but an apprenticeship as an EFZ telematics technician or (as the apprenticeship has been called since 2020) EFZ building IT technician is not a mandatory requirement. Please note: The "Telematics HF" or "Technician HF Telematics" course has been revised; the course content has been taught under the new course title "System Technician HF" since 2022. You can also attend the course in systems engineering at a university of applied sciences (HF) with another technical vocational qualification (EFZ), for example as an electronics technician, automation technician, electrician, IT technician or multimedia electronics technician.

How long does it take to train as a telematics technician at a higher technical college?

Please note: The "Telematics HF" or "Technician HF Telematics" course has been revised; since 2022, the course content has been taught under the new course title "System Technician HF". Training to become a qualified systems technician HF generally takes place in a part-time course and lasts three years.

What percentage can I continue to work during my HF training as a telematics technician?

Depending on your choice of higher technical college and course model, you can continue to work between 80 and 100 percent of the time while training to become a qualified systems engineer HF. Please note, however, that in addition to classroom teaching, there must also be sufficient time for self-study and exam preparation. Is there also a professional examination for telematics technicians?

For telematics technicians EFZ or building IT technicians EFZ (as the vocational qualification has been called since 2021) with several years of professional experience, several professional examinations (BP) are available, depending on the preferred specialization:
