Winterthur is located in north-eastern Switzerland in the canton of Zurich between seven wooded hills, north-east of Zurich Airport and the city of Zurich and south-west of Frauenfeld. The former industrial city is often referred to as the gateway to eastern Switzerland and lies on the River Eulach. Winterthur borders the upper Töss Valley to the east and the Töss river flows around the city area to the south. To the north, Winterthur borders on the Zürcher Weinland. As a center for practice-oriented education, there are many different vocational training institutions that are closely networked with the economy, such as the Winterthur Training Center AZW, the Winterthur Vocational Training School, the School of Business and Languages SWS, the KV Winterthur Business School, the Center for Training in Healthcare ZAG and the Swiss Institute of Business Administration SIB.
There are a wide variety of catering options in the vicinity of schools in Winterthur. Many restaurants, self-service restaurants, canteens, cafés and take-away providers cover practically all multicultural food options. At the city gate and directly at Winterthur main station, numerous stores offer food from early in the morning until late at night, which can be purchased on the way to school in Winterthur.
