Milan Asanin: From electrician to Head of Health, Environment, Safety and Quality

During his apprenticeship as an electrician and subsequent work as a service technician, Milan Asanin realized that he particularly appreciated the contact with and advice from customers in his work and switched to internal sales at an electrical wholesaler, where he was soon able to lead a small internal sales team. To further expand his skills, he began training as a TS technician, where he came into contact with quality management for the first time. He discovered his new passion and opted for a rather unconventional path, a one-year internship at a facility management company. Today he says: "For me, this step meant much less pay and no more management responsibility. But sometimes you have to take a step back so that you can take two steps forward."

And that's exactly what he did. As a perfect candidate with experience in wholesale and training as an electrician, he started as a project manager at a large electrical accessories supplier and managed a major logistics project. He was finally able to take on a practical role in quality management and later expanded this role in two large Swiss companies. Since 2009, Asanin has also been a lecturer in project management, leadership technology and management systems at the SFB University of Applied Sciences.

The methodology of constant small steps

In order to professionalize himself in the field of quality management, Milan Asanin decided to complete various further training courses in parallel to his work at SAQ-QUALICON. He successfully completed the Master of Advanced Studies MAS Quality Leadership course at the HWZ Zurich. The course content on communication and coaching in particular was something that is still very useful to him today in his work in project management and team leadership and from which he can benefit in his day-to-day work.

He was also able to use his Master's thesis to delve deeper into the CIP, the continuous improvement process, and gain fundamental insights that he was also able to apply as a project manager at Kuhn Rikon. The methodology of constantly taking small steps, which is typical of the CIP, also corresponds to Asanin's philosophy of life, which he also hopes to implement in his new role as Head of HSEQ (Health, Environment, Safety, Quality), which he will start in December 2017.
