Further training usually brings much more than a gain in personal skills, provided it is the right one. Further training increases your chances of finding more interesting jobs and generally increases your own market value. It forms the basis for management positions or for a specialist career, which usually leads to a pay rise in both cases. The costs of further training are often amortized after just a few years. In addition, there is positive personal development and the expansion of one's own network of contacts.

According to a study conducted by the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2017, the following results were obtained from 389 of its own graduates:

  • Professional competence: 95% of graduates stated that the further training had led to a significant improvement in their professional competence.
  • Personal development: 73% of graduates stated that their appearance had improved thanks to further training. 74% stated that they had become more self-confident.

Various studies confirm that the right further training has a very positive effect on the salary situation. This is also shown by various tests with salary calculators (Lohnrechner.ch / Salarium.ch), which can be carried out very easily:

  • Enter your own situation
  • Enter the next higher education level under "Education" and analyze the wage increase
    • Example: If you have completed an apprenticeship, are 25 years old and work in marketing in the Aministration department, you can earn CHF 500 to CHF 1,000 more per month with higher vocational training. Depending on the employer, this may require a change of job. Calculated over a working life of up to 65 years, this means additional income of CHF 360,000 with an average salary increase of CHF 750 per month. This does not take into account further salary increases due to promotions etc.

In its 2017/2018 salary study, the ODEC (Swiss Association of Graduates of Higher Technical Colleges) identified the following salary trends:

  • At the beginning of the higher technical college specializing in construction, participants earned an average of just under 60,000 per year; four years after graduation, they were already earning over 90,000 per year.
  • At the beginning of the higher technical college specializing in the hotel and catering industry, participants earned an average of just under 50,000 per year; four years after graduation, they were already earning over 70,000 per year.

Conclusion: The right further training increases your chances on the job market and expands your own skills. It also has a positive influence on your own appearance and self-confidence and a significant increase in income.
