Plasterer drywall builder EFZ: Apprenticeship, training, information and schools

The tasks of plasterers and drywallers have undergone major changes in recent years. Whereas in the past many tasks were carried out in the workshop, today they are considered indispensable specialists for new builds, renovations and conversion projects inside buildings as well as on exterior facades directly on site. They apply plaster to walls, ceilings and facades, where they have to demonstrate great skill - both in handling machines and conveyor systems, as well as in the tasks that are still done by hand. In addition to a good physical condition, which is required for this physically demanding work, plasterers also have to perform demanding mental work, such as the construction of partition walls with prefabricated elements and plaster surfaces. They also install insulation and can demonstrate their creativity when producing and decorating plasterwork. The profession therefore requires a flair for meticulous work as well as a confident handling of tools and machines.

For unskilled drywall plasterers with a few years of professional experience, the apprenticeship is offered in a shortened version. This means that the apprenticeship qualification - the Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ) - can be completed within two years while working. As lessons take place in the evenings and at weekends, the workload does not have to be reduced.
