Tipps und Entscheidungshilfen für die Ausbildungswahl

There is a European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) for road transport and a regulation concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), or "ADR / RID" for short. When handling dangerous goods during transportation, it is therefore essential to ensure that all regulations in accordance with ADR / RID are complied with. For this reason, companies that handle or transport such goods are dependent on a competent dangerous goods officer who is committed to ensuring that dangerous goods are handled correctly. They monitor all processing steps and ensure that the transport regulations are complied with. In the event of ambiguities, they take on an advisory role both internally and externally and are also important contacts for the company when it comes to purchasing transport equipment that complies with regulations. They supervise and manage the personnel responsible for packaging, filling, shipping, loading, transporting and unloading dangerous goods. As a dangerous goods officer, you therefore draw up instructions and give directions.

The following contents are taught in the Dangerous Goods Officer course:

  • National and international legal basics
  • Preparation of annual reports and accident reports
  • Application of ADR / RID
  • UN numbers and the classification of dangerous goods
  • Security obligations
  • Transportation of hazardous goods and packaging
  • Shipping dangerous goods
  • Equipment and regulations for means of transportation
  • etc.

Are you a safety officer or responsible for transportation and logistics in your company? Do you work in a logistics company or are you responsible for import/export? If so, training as a dangerous goods safety advisor / dangerous goods safety advisor can be an important step towards achieving greater safety and being able to demonstrate your skills in a certificate. The dangerous goods officer training / dangerous goods officer training is also aimed at those responsible at municipal, cantonal and federal level or those responsible for quality management.

You are allowed to work as a dangerous goods officer if you have a valid training certificate, i.e. a dangerous goods officer training course, for the relevant mode of transport. This certificate is issued by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce after the basic course has been completed and the examination passed. The certificate is valid for five years and can then be extended by means of further training or a new examination.

No special prior knowledge or professional qualifications are required in order to be admitted to training.

All companies that transport dangerous goods are required by law to appoint and commission an internal or external dangerous goods officer. The workload of the dangerous goods officer can vary greatly depending on the activity of the respective company and varies between a few days per year and a 100% employment.

Training as a dangerous goods officer should include at least 24 teaching units of 45 minutes each. As a rule, the training is completed within 3-5 days.

The examination as a dangerous goods officer is carried out by an accredited examination center.

It is therefore quite possible that you will not take the exam at the training center.
