If you already have specialist knowledge in the field of energy-efficient building renovation, you will be trained to become a competent consultant during this course. Gain a comprehensive knowledge of building technology and thermal insulation as well as the skills to impart your knowledge to those involved in construction, such as architects or building owners, and to advise them competently. Building energy consultants prepare energy analyses of buildings and develop timely concepts to optimize the energy supply of a building. Through your professional activity, you contribute to environmental protection and enable many households to save energy and therefore money in the long term.

Are you interested in training to become an energy consultant for buildings? The professional examination course at most schools lasts six months and requires at least three years of professional experience. A federal certificate as a head fitter for heating or plumbing, as a plumber foreman or poly construction foreman or a qualification as a project manager for building envelopes is also required, as well as proof of all the necessary modules. These modules are taught in a training course and include: Renewable Energy, Implementation Planning, Building Construction, Funding Applications and Verifications and Building Physics. The Energy Consultant for Buildings course is a preparatory course that prepares you for the federal professional examination (BP), which, if passed, will award you a federal certificate. The further training course for the Higher Professional Examination (HFP) Energy and Efficiency Consultant is also federally recognized and, if passed, will award you a federal diploma. For both further training courses, completion of all required modules is mandatory, unless you can provide a certificate of equivalence, which you complete within the preparatory courses.

You can train to become an energy consultant for buildings with a BP professional examination or a subsequent HFP higher professional examination.

The professional examination comprises five compulsory modules, which must be completed before the examination. These are: Building construction, building physics, implementation planning, evidence and funding applications as well as building technology and renewable energy. In addition to a diploma thesis, proof or certificates of equivalence for the following six modules must be presented for the advanced technical examination: Technical Fundamentals of Energy Technology, Technical Fundamentals of Construction, Technical Installations, Energy Management, Measures for Energy Efficiency and the Use of Renewable Energies, Business Management. The schools for energy consulting will inform you about the individual contents and structure.

In order to be able to take the further training to become an energy consultant for buildings with a federal certificate (BP) and to be admitted to the professional examination, you must meet the following requirements before the examination:

  • Federal diploma (BP) in a building services engineering profession or qualification as an object manager in a building envelope profession (or otherwise equivalent qualification)
  • At least three years of professional experience in the field of building technology or building envelope
  • Proof of the required module qualifications or certificates of equivalence

The further training for the professional examination for energy consultants for buildings and for the higher professional examination for energy and efficiency consultants can both be completed alongside your job, allowing you to maintain your workload or, if necessary, reduce it by just a few percent.
