First Certificate: Seize the opportunity to earn a Cambridge language diploma recognized worldwide

Do you have a basic knowledge of the English language and would like to have it certified on an internationally recognized language diploma? Then the Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) is just right for you!

The Cambridge Certificates are probably the best-known English language certificates worldwide and the FCE, the Cambridge First Certificate, is recognized in commerce, industry and many schools. The First Certificate is issued by the University of Cambridge. The First Certificate examinations take place on the same dates worldwide, namely in March, June and December.

To prepare for a First Certificate exam, you can attend special courses at numerous language schools. The First Certificate exam is also held at certified examination centers around the world.

In der Schweiz gibt es bis anhin 18 Städte, in denen Sie die offiziellen Cambridge Prüfungen für das First Certificate in English (FCE), das Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), das Profeciency Certificate in English (CPE), die Business Certificates sowie alle weiteren Cambridge Examen eblegen können. If you want to prove your English skills with an officially recognized diploma, the best way to do this is after intensive preparation at a language school. Such English courses are usually called "diploma courses" and vary in length depending on the school. For a preparation course for the FCE, the Cambridge English First, you should - depending on your previous knowledge - expect around 80 to 90 lessons, which can be spread over 8 to 11 months. However, you also have the option of taking an intensive course to prepare for this language diploma exam and thus shorten the time span immensely. This is also possible during language stays or in online courses, so that the preparation time is cut in half.

Wer sich für die Prüfung zum First Certificate in English (FCE) interessiert, der sollte über Englischkenntnisse verfügen, die mindestens auf Niveau B2 liegen, besser noch auf C1. Das bedeutet, dass Sie mit einem Muttersprachler problemlos kommunizieren können und auch komplexe Themen verstehen. Sollten Sie nicht wissen, wie gut Sie Englisch sprechen, ist ein Einstufungstest sinnvoll, den Ihnen viele Schulen kostenlos anbieten. Um sein Wissen aufzufrischen ist ein Diplomvorbereitungskurs sehr zu empfehlen, dem meist auch ein Einstufungstest vorausgeht.

Das FCE eignet sich vor allem für Personen, die Englisch bereits gut beherrschen und Ihre Sprachfertigkeiten mit einem offiziell und international anerkannten Diplom bescheinigen lassen möchten. Für all jene, die nicht über ausreichend Sprachkenntnisse verfügen, könnte der Preliminary English Test (PET) interessant sein. Personen, die ein Englischzertifikat vor allem für den Beruf benötigen, sollten anstelle des First Certificate in English über die Möglichkeit von Business English Certificates (BEC) nachdenken, welche auch auf unterschiedlichen Niveaustufen abgelegt werden können.

All language schools require students to have passed the PET (Preliminary English Test) or a placement test to take a preparatory course for the First Certificate in English, which is usually offered by the schools free of charge or for a small fee. This is the only way to ensure that all participants actually have sufficient knowledge of English. The test requires language skills that allow the candidates to cope with a wide variety of conversational situations and express themselves appropriately on a wide range of topics. A comprehensive vocabulary is important as well as good grammar skills, written expression and correct sentence structures.
