Nutrition coach: practising correctly thanks to sound training and continuous professional development

Despite the proliferation of fast food restaurants, a proper and healthy diet is becoming an increasingly important need for a growing number of people. However, difficulties often arise when it comes to implementation, which is where a nutrition coach can offer support. In order to practice this profession successfully and professionally, you need sound training.

Depending on the school offering, there are various nutrition courses, each with different course content and topics. However, the following topics are always included in the course:

  • Change of diet
  • Creation of a nutrition plan
  • Exercise and nutrition
  • Nutrition during illness, pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.
  • Weight reduction and weight maintenance
  • Dietetics
  • Diabetes
  • Current findings from health research

Some nutrition courses also include topics such as knowledge from different cultures, the New Life method, the 5 elements concept, the vegan concept and the fasting concept.

Das Fach des Ernährungscoachs ist äusserst weitläufig und umfasst die verschiedensten Aspekte der Ernährung und ihrer Konsequenzen für den Körper (positiv wie negativ). Damit diese Fachpersonen bestens für ihre zukünftigen Aufgaben gewappnet sind, werden sie unter anderem in folgenden Bereichen geschult:
  • Allgemeine Ernährungslehre
  • Anatomie
  • Coaching und Beratung
  • Ernährungskonzepte
  • Sportlerernährung
  • Diäten und Ernährungsergänzungen

Schulen bietet sehr unterschiedliche Lehrgänge und zum Ernährungscoach an, die jedoch meist alle berufsbegleitend angeboten werden. Eine Ausnahme stellt der Bachelorstudiengang zum Ernährungsberater BSc / zur Ernährungsberaterin BSc dar, welcher ausschliesslich in Vollzeit absolviert werden kann. Bei einigen Schulen ist es jedoch möglich, während der Ausbildung im Ernährungscoaching auch weiterhin vollzeitlich zu arbeiten, jedoch erstreckt sich in einem solchen Fall die Ausbildungsdauer oftmals auf bis zu drei Jahre und darüber hinaus. Möchten Sie den Lehrgang zum Ernährungs-Coach in kürzerer Zeit absolvieren, so ist ein reduziertes Arbeitspensum zu bevorzugen, da neben dem Präsenzunterricht auch einige Stunden Selbststudium pro Woche anfallen. Besprechen Sie diesen Punkt jedoch am besten mit den entsprechenden Schulen für Ernährungsberatung und lassen Sie sich ganz individuell beraten.

Sollten Sie Ihre Leistungen über die Zusatzversicherungen der Krankenkassen abrechnen lassen wollen, so benötigen Sie entweder eine entsprechende eidgenössisch anerkannte Ausbildung (Bachelorstudium Ernährung und Diätetik zum Ernährungsberater/in BSc) oder eine Ernährungscoach-Weiterbildung, die den ASCA oder EMR Richtlinien entspricht. Für eine EMR Anerkennung sind für die Ernährungsberatung (Methode Nr. 68) 150 Stunden Ausbildung sowie 600 Stunden schulmedizinische Grundlagen vorzuweisen. Möchten Sie als Ernährungscoach mit der Methodennummer 218 – Diätetik (NHP) nach TEN registrieren, so ist dies nur in Kombination mit der Methodengruppe Nr. 131, der Naturheilkundlichen Praktiken NHP (Naturheilpraktiker/in) möglich. Für Ernährungsberatung TCM nach Traditioneller Chinesischer Medizin sind 300 Stunden Ausbildung zu erbringen, wobei hier bereits eine Ausbildung in der Methodengruppe Nr. 185 TCM erfolgt sein muss. Ayurveda Ernährungsberatung (Methode 24) kann mit 150 Stunden Fachausbildung mit der Methodengruppe Nr. 22 (Ayurveda) ergänzt werden.

Ein Ernährungscoach setzt sich mit allen Fragen rund um die menschliche Ernährung und ihre Auswirkungen auf den Körper ein. Er berät gesunde Personen, Personen mit leichten Gewichtsproblemen und Freizeitsportler dabei, ihre Ernährung ihrem Alltag und ihrem Leistungsumsatz anzupassen. Ernährungscoaches wissen um die Wichtigkeit gesunden Essens für den Körper, kennen die Auswirkungen von falschem Essverhalten und können Personen dabei helfen, eine gesunde und positive Einstellung zur Nahrung (wieder) zu finden.
