Wage increase after completion of the "Cyber Security Specialist (BP)" course

The chances of a salary increase by obtaining the federal certificate as a Cyber Security Specialist are good. As this professional examination has only existed since 2019, there are no statistical salary figures for cyber security specialists yet. According to a study by ICT-Berufsbildung Schweiz, the salaries of ICT specialists with a higher vocational training qualification were roughly equivalent to those of ICT specialists with a university degree (source: ICT specialist demand forecast 2024).

Calculation of the possible salary increase through the acquisition of the Federal Certificate Cyber Security Specialist

We have calculated a case for the Cyber Security Specialist salary as an approximate example for you: Memet, a 24-year-old computer scientist with an EFZ in application development, worked in the ICT department of a hospital in Bern and earned around CHF 6,400 a month. He was particularly interested in vulnerabilities in programs and had been part of the ICT security team since he started working at the hospital three years ago. He enjoyed working in the team, but he clearly wanted to contribute to solutions more independently and also take on more responsibility. After a year of preparation, he therefore took the newly created Cyber Security Specialist professional examination in 2020 and passed with very good results. Since then, he has continued to work at the same hospital, is bursting with ideas and now leads his own project with two employees within the team - and his monthly salary as a Cyber Security Specialist has risen by more than 20% to around CHF 7,750.
