BM2 preparation courses for adults: Full speed ahead towards university
The vocational baccalaureate is generally a prerequisite for studying at a university of applied sciences. The BM2 differs from the BM1, which is completed during the apprenticeship at the vocational school. It is therefore aimed at adult professionals who wish to obtain a vocational baccalaureate after completing an apprenticeship. BM2 preparatory courses are not for the faint-hearted, as they require a high degree of curiosity and discipline. The courses are organized and run by private schools and vocational colleges of higher vocational education and training, but the examinations are then held uniformly for all schools within the federal framework. Depending on the time available and professional activity, there are different ways in which the courses are structured. In addition to full-time courses, part-time day or evening courses are also offered. Many schools also offer large parts of the content via distance learning. The duration of the BM2 preparation varies greatly depending on the intensity of the course, ranging from one year to two years.
The BM2 preparatory courses can be completed in different directions, depending on which university of applied sciences course the graduates achieve after the vocational baccalaureate:
- Health and social affairs (focus: natural and social sciences)
- Technology, architecture and life sciences (focus: mathematics and natural sciences)
- Business and services (focus: business and languages)
- Nature, landscape and food (focus: chemistry, biology and physics)
- Design and art
For all subject areas, entrance examinations must be taken before the BM2 preparatory course can be completed. These usually include an evaluation of the current level of knowledge in the subjects German, English, French and mathematics. The grade weighting of the individual subjects varies depending on the subject area.
