What opportunities does a qualification as a TCM therapist for acupuncture open up for me?

Acupuncture has established itself as a recognized complement to conventional medicine and is in high demand.

The training and work of naturopaths in TCM/acupuncture is primarily geared towards self-employment.

There are more and more therapy centers or joint practices in which therapists from different disciplines work together and complement each other. Joint practices of doctors and naturopaths are also becoming increasingly common, i.e. there are also opportunities for professional partnerships or employment.

Attention: New regulations for practicing the profession from 2023

To work as a TCM therapist for acupuncture, you currently need a cantonal license to practice. From 2023, this will only be issued to persons who can provide proof of one of these two qualifications:

  • Industry certificate from OdA AM (alternative medicine) for TCM acupuncture/Tuina
  • Higher professional examination as naturopathic practitioner TCM acupuncture/Tuina

The path to these two diplomas can be found under "Training, qualifications, recognition, admission" in this tip box.
