Business diploma: What are the main disadvantages?

The Higher Business Diploma (HWD) enables you to take on new tasks, solve problems independently and apply modern business management tools competently. Thanks to your practice-oriented business knowledge as a generalist, you will then be a sought-after person for commercial activities.

The Higher Business Diploma (HWD) - the main disadvantages are:

  1. The Higher Business Diploma (HWD) is not a federally recognized qualification and is less well known in internationally oriented companies. It builds on the training level of basic commercial training and, as an intermediate level to a federal qualification, provides in-depth knowledge in the commercial and business management field. Business specialists at this level are in high demand on the job market. After successful completion, the protected title "Business Specialist VSK or Edupool" may be used. This certifies sound business management knowledge as a generalist.
  2. At certificate level, the course content and admission requirements are generally not regulated and can be determined autonomously by the schools. For the Advanced Business Diploma, on the other hand, there are clear regulations and certified training quality in accordance with the VSK (Association of Swiss Management Schools) or Edupool (Swiss Commercial Association).
  3. As the course is usually completed alongside work and the time required for preparation and follow-up work, self-study and examinations is considerable, free time often has to be foregone.
  4. Even after completing a higher business diploma, you often still have a long way to go: if you want to work as a qualified specialist in business, you should continue your education or specialize afterwards. Interesting further training including professional examinations in marketing, sales etc. or studying at a higher technical college are possible.

Graduates generally take on demanding management tasks in middle management positions in small and medium-sized companies. They create a solid basis for their professional career and have the opportunity to continue their education by taking a professional examination or studying at a university of applied sciences.
