Transpersonal psychology investigates and describes spiritual experiences and integrates the findings into existing modern psychological theory. Experiences in the field of mysticism and epiphany, as well as experiences with altered states of consciousness and trance, play a role here. These are all supernatural experiences beyond the state of consciousness and include the supernatural, mystical, religious and irrational.

Transpersonal psychology therefore does not proceed exclusively according to the humanistic form of therapy, but often also uses other therapy methods and forms. These include, for example, meditation, hypnosis sessions, body therapy, initiatic therapy, psycholytic psychotherapy, holotropic breathing, shamanism and other techniques in the spiritual field. This approach - conventional psychological talk therapy combined with spiritual and mystical methods - sometimes leads to a critical attitude, but on the other hand it appeals to many people who are not addressed holistically in humanistic psychology and who would like their irrational and transpersonal experiences to be taken seriously.
